The NMU Hoop House was established in 2009 as a community engagement project with the Marquette Food Co-op.
NMU gained sole supervision of the Hoop House in 2016 and continues its mission of being a collaborative learning center for eaters of all ages who are curious about where their food comes from and how it is grown.
Maddy Humphrey ('21) created the NMU Hoop House Student Organization in the fall 2018 semester to engage more students and raise awareness of sustainable agriculture on campus.
Starting with fewer than ten students, the student organization has grown to over 400 students and 20 community members on the mailing list with an active 15–20 members during the academic year.
The NMU Hoop House has flourished since the establishment of the student organization and continues to have a positive impact on the NMU community.
