This skillbuilder provides an overview of key sustainability concepts and shares examples of what NMU is doing to reduce our impact on the planet. You will learn several definitions, gain insights into different aspects of sustainability, and get a variety of tools to help you live lighter on the planet. Positive social change requires many different actions at many different scales, from individuals to institutions. By working together, we can create a more sustainable world.

Dr. Jessica L. Thompson is the inaugural Assistant Vice President for Sustainability at Northern Michigan University and the Director of the Sustainability Hub for Innovation and the Environment (SHINE). She previously served as a full professor in the College of Business teaching courses in communication, public relations and sustainable business.



She is also a trained facilitator and mediator and holds graduate certificates in Adaptive Management of Environmental Systems (University of Utah) and Sustainable Business Strategy (Harvard University).
