Dr. Athena Stanley, a proud Yooper and Marquette-native, holds a PhD in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning from the University at Buffalo, SUNY (2018), an MAE in Educational Instruction from Northern Michigan University (2013), and a BA in Elementary Education from NMU (2010). She founded Athena Global Learning in 2025, a passion project initiated after completing her second year as an assistant professor at NMU’s Global Campus and Applied Workplace Leadership (AWL) program, where she worked primarily with pre-service teachers and paraprofessionals in the Michigan Talent Together and national Grow Your Own programs during the 2023-2024 academic year to combat the teacher shortage. Dr. Stanley went on to instruct students from 46 academic majors in NMU’s Applied Workplace Leadership (AWL) program courses, drawing on 14 years of international teaching experience in Ecuador, Turkey, and China, including leadership roles as English education manager, primary school curriculum lead, and head of grades 5 and 3.
