Trained in the science of behavior, behavior analysts are uniquely situated to provide a critical set of skills to the domain of applied animal behavior that can help support species-typical behavior, teach adaptive skills, and improve animal-human relationships. How students can apply their training in behavior analysis to working with companion animals, especially dogs, will be introduced. Additional considerations related to working in applied dog behavior settings will be discussed including the necessity of a broad scope of training, competency, ethics and credentialing.
