NMU first-generation college students, whose parents or guardians did not obtain bachelor's degrees, are invited to gather at the Wildcat statue outside of Jamrich at 5pm on Monday, November 8th, for a group photo. A reception will immediately follow with pizza, games, and other treats will follow outside of the SEEC office on the second floor of Hedgcock, outside of where Melted used to be.

The date marks the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which increased federal money given to universities, created scholarships, gave low-interest loans for students and established a National Teachers Corps. The day is now used on college campuses across the country to celebrate the presence and experiences of first-generation students, faculty and staff.
